Alabama Shakes Drummer Arrested for Child Abuse
Published Mar 29, 2021Steve Johnson, the drummer in Alabama Shakes, has been arrested on charges of child abuse.
According to the Associated Press, Johnson was taken into custody last Wednesday (March 24) in Limestone County, AL, and indicted on charges of "willful torture, willful abuse, and cruelly beating or otherwise willfully maltreating a child under the age of 18."
Johnson's bail has been set at $21,500 USD, and his arraignment is scheduled for April 7.
Last year, Johnson pleaded guilty to a 2019 violation of a domestic violence protection order.
Johnson is a founding member of the Alabama Shakes and recorded on the group's 2012 album Boys & Girls and 2015's Sound & Color.
So far, the band, including singer Brittany Howard, have yet to speak publicly on his arrest.
