Childish Gambino Sued over "This Is America"
A Florida artist alleges Donald Glover ripped off his song to create the hit's "substantially similar" chorus
Published May 06, 2021In 2018, Donald Glover faced accusations of plagiarism for "This Is America" a little over a month after releasing the single as Childish Gambino, and a second artist has now claimed the successful song is quite similar to a work of his own.
TMZ reports that Miami-based Emelike Nwosuocha, who performs and records as Kidd Wes, claims in a lawsuit that the hook and delivery of "This Is America" are "unmistakably substantially similar, if not practically identical" to his own 2016 track "Made in America."
The site also points to the artist claiming a lyrical similarity, comparing his "Made in America / Flex on the radio / Made me a terrorist / Pessimistic n****s / You should just cherish this," to Glover's "This is America / Guns in my area / I got the strap / I gotta carry 'em."

Per TMZ, Nwosuocha is suing Glover and the song's co-writers, Roc Nation and Young Thug, who sings backup vocals on "This Is America."
Glover recently began shooting new seasons of Atlanta.
