Metric, Cœur de Pirate, Alex Cuba to Play Parliament Hill for Canada Day Celebrations
Published Jun 01, 2016We're exactly one month away from Canada Day, when a number of national acts will perform on Parliament Hill to celebrate the holiday. Artists tapped to appear on July 1 include veteran pop rock group Metric and French-to-English crossover artist Cœur de pirate.
The lineup for the Canada Day concert in Ottawa was confirmed today (June 1) by Canadian Heritage Minister Mélanie Joly. In addition to Cœur de pirate and Metric, other acts set to appear include Alex Cuba, Coleman Hell, Indian City, Alex Nevsky and Les Hay Babies.
"I'm very pleased to be taking part in my first Canada Day as minister of Canadian heritage," Joly said in a statement. "I invite you to join me in making the most of the many activities being offered in Canada's capital region. I invite all Canadians to show their Canadian pride during the celebrations taking place in your part of the country."
Metric vocalist Emily Haines added, "It's nice to be having a bit of a moment on the world stage with our new prime minister and our recent successes in sports and music, but I've always felt we are the envy of the world and very fortunate to live here. There's not a day that goes by that I don't appreciate how lucky I am to call Canada home."
Furthermore, the night will be hosted by rapper Kardinal Offishall and Rebecca Makonnen, with the concert being broadcast live through CBC News Network and ICI RDI.
